A water crossing is the one trail event that keeps working on your machine after you have driven out of it. Mud dries and falls off. Dust gets cleaned out of a filter. Water, though, gets past seals, sits in low points, and mixes with lubricants that then quietly stop doing their job. The checks below are ordered by how quickly a problem turns expensive, and none of them take long if you do them the same evening instead of leaving the machine on the trailer until the following weekend.

Start with the engine oil and the CVT housing, in that order. Pull the dipstick or look at the sight glass and check for a milky or gray tint, which means water has emulsified into the oil. If you see it, do not run the engine again until the oil and filter have been changed, regardless of where you are in the interval. The site's UTV reminder schedule puts an oil change at about every 100 hours or 12 months, but a submerged intake or a breather that took on water resets that clock to zero.

On a belt-driven machine, the CVT housing is next. Most utility and sport side-by-sides have a drain plug at the lowest point of the clutch cover, and it exists for exactly this. Brakes deserve a look even if they felt fine on the way home. Water and grit together act as an abrasive between pad and rotor, and the UTV brake inspection interval of about every 50 hours or six months assumes normal conditions. Pull a wheel, look at the pad thickness, and check the fluid reservoir for any cloudiness, which can indicate water in the system. If the brakes were dragging or pulsing after the crossing, that is worth investigating before the next ride rather than after.

Electrical connectors are the item most people skip and most people regret skipping. Water in a connector does not fail immediately; it corrodes over weeks and produces intermittent faults that are hard to trace. Open the obvious ones under the dash and near the battery, look for moisture, and dry them out. Dielectric grease on the reassembled connector is cheap insurance. Check the air box for any standing water at the same time, and if the filter got wet, replace it rather than trying to dry it.

Finally, look at the things that hold the machine together. A crossing with a rocky bottom is also an impact event, so the site's fastener reminder of about every 25 hours on a UTV applies here too.
