Sudden power loss under boost: charge pipe clamps on X3, RZR Pro XP and Raptor

Loosening of the intercooler and charge piping clamps is recorded in the desk's problem records for the X3 platform from 2017 to 2026, the RZR-PRO platform from 2020 to 2026 and the RAPTOR platform from 2010 to 2026. The symptom is abrupt. The machine is pulling hard under boost and suddenly goes flat, often with a whoosh or a pop from the engine bay, and the check engine light comes on with an underboost or turbo performance fault. Off boost the engine runs, roughly, and the driver limps home.
The cause is vibration and heat cycling. The pipes and silicone boots between the turbo, the intercooler and the throttle body are held by clamps, and every heat cycle expands and contracts the joint a little. Every trail mile shakes it. A clamp that was at the right tension when the machine was new gradually loses it, until the boost pressure inside the pipe is more than the friction holding the boot on, and the boot pops off. Oil mist from the crankcase breather makes the inside of the boot slippery and helps it along.
Confirming it is usually a matter of looking. With the engine off and cool, trace the charge piping from the turbo outlet to the intercooler and from the intercooler to the throttle body. A boot that has blown off is obvious. A boot that is about to has a clamp that can be turned by hand, or a boot that has walked partly off its pipe and shows a clean band where it used to sit. Listen too: a small leak under boost hisses or whistles before it blows off entirely. On the Raptor, start with the boots behind the intercooler at the front of the truck.
A fix is to refit the boot squarely on its pipe and re-tension the clamp to the value in your service manual. A boot that has torn, gone hard or shows oil soaking through it is replaced. Many owners replace the factory clamps with a better design at the first failure, and that is reasonable, but the same rule applies: tension to the manufacturer's figure, not as tight as the tool allows, because an over-tightened clamp cuts into the boot and creates the next leak. Clear the fault code after the repair and road test under boost.
While the piping is apart, look at what else the leak might have done. A boot that blew off on the pressure side has let unfiltered air into the intake after the airbox if the leak is upstream of the throttle, or has simply dumped boost if it is downstream. Check the intercooler fins for packed mud, since a blocked intercooler raises charge temperature and boost pressure both, and check the boost pressure sensor connector, which sits in the same area and takes the same abuse.
Prevention is inspection. The site's UTV reminders schedule a fastener re-torque every 25 hours, and the charge pipe clamps belong on that list for the X3 and the RZR Pro XP. On the Raptor the truck reminders put a skid plate and underbody fastener check at every 5,000 miles, and that is the moment to check the clamps and boots behind the bumper. A minute with a screwdriver on each clamp is all it takes.
Owners who have raised boost with a tune or fitted a larger turbo will see this failure more often, because the factory clamps were never intended for the pressure. Higher boost needs boots and clamps rated for it, and the joints may need positive retention such as a bead on the pipe end. That is aftermarket territory, but the principle holds: the clamp is the weak point and the pressure decides how weak.
