Light Bars, Pods, Chase Lights and Bike Headlights: Off-Road Lighting by Job

Five lighting listings cover forward reach, side fill, being seen from behind and night riding on a dirt bike; each fits a different set of platforms.

Auxiliary lighting is sold on lumens and looks, and neither tells an owner what they need. The useful question is which direction you need to see, or be seen, better. Our parts database lists five lighting products for the machines we cover, sorted here into forward reach, side fill, rear visibility and a headlight for a bike that never had a proper one.

Forward reach is the light bar. The Baja Designs OnX6+ 30in Light Bar is listed for the Bronco (U725, 2021–2026), F-150 Raptor (RAPTOR, 2010–2026) and Colorado ZR2 (ZR2, 2017–2026), and the note describes a long-range LED bar for driving fast at night in open country. That last phrase is the fitment that matters more than the platform code. A bar like this is for desert two-track and open range; on a tight forest trail it lights the trees and not the corner.

Side fill is the pod. The Baja Designs Squadron Pro LED Pods are listed for the RZR Pro XP (RZR-PRO, 2020–2026), Maverick X3 (X3, 2017–2026), Talon 1000R (TALON, 2019–2026) and YXZ1000R (YXZ, 2016–2026) as compact ditch or A-pillar lights that fill in the sides of the trail. The KC HiLiTES FLEX ERA 4 LED Lights are the Jeep equivalent, listed for the JL (2018–2026), JT (2020–2026) and JK (2007–2018), with swappable beam patterns. Pillar pods make a tight trail readable at night.

Rear visibility is the chase light. The Rigid Industries Chase Rear Light is listed for the RZR XP 1000 (RZR-XP, 2014–2026), RZR Pro XP (2020–2026), X3 (2017–2026), Teryx KRX 1000 (KRX, 2020–2026) and YXZ1000R (2016–2026), described as a rear-facing amber and red light so following riders can see you in dust. It is the one product here about other people's safety, and on a group dune ride arguably the most important.

The dirt bike listing is the Baja Designs XL Pro Race Light, a bar-mounted LED headlight for night enduro and desert racing on the CRF450RX (CRF, 2017–2026) and 350 EXC-F (EXC, 2012–2026). A competition bike's factory headlight, where it has one, is a legal minimum rather than a riding light; this replaces it.

Before buying, confirm the mount. Lighting fitment in our database means a bracket exists for that platform, and the bracket is often a separate part number. A pillar pod needs a mount specific to the cage or windshield frame; a bar needs a bumper or roof mount that clears the hood. Ask for the mount part number and confirm the year range on the mount, not just the light.

Then confirm the electrical budget. A machine already running a winch and a radio may not have spare capacity or a free switched circuit for a high-draw bar; the fix is a fused distribution block and, on some UTVs, a larger battery. An unfused light wired straight to the battery is a fire on a machine that lives in dry grass.

Lastly, check the law and the land. Forward-facing auxiliary lights are restricted on public roads in most states and must be covered or off on pavement; a plated Bronco or Wrangler owner needs the rule for their state. Night riding is restricted on some managed land and a chase light is required in some dune areas. The managing agency is the authority on any of it, so check before you load the trailer.

Nothing here replaces your service manual. Torque values, capacities and pressures must come from the manufacturer's published data for your exact machine.
