Ford stacks four recalls — three F-150 campaigns, one 2026 Bronco; Toyota adds a fifth
Good morning. Start with the one that can strand you at speed. Under campaign 26V-578, Ford is recalling certain 2023–2027 F-150 vehicles because the fuel tank may be improperly secured and leak fuel, or detach from the vehicle while driving, per NHTSA. Dealers will inspect and replace the fuel tank straps as necessary, free of charge; Ford's number is 26S69, owner letters are expected September 21, and VINs are searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning September 14. One wrinkle to note: NHTSA's own affected-vehicle listing names the F-150 Raptor for 2023–2026, a narrower range than the campaign summary's 2023–2027 — the two do not fully agree, so run your VIN rather than assume from the model year. It is not a stop-ride.
Two more Ford campaigns hit the 2026 F-150, and NHTSA's affected-vehicle listings for both name the F-150 Raptor. Under 26V-576, incorrect rear axle tail bearings may have been installed, which NHTSA says can cause rear wheel lock-up or driveshaft separation; dealers replace the rear axle tail bearing free (Ford 26S63, VINs searchable September 14). Under 26V-577, stabilizer rod fasteners may not have been tightened properly, allowing the rod to shift out of position; dealers replace the fasteners free (Ford 26S66, VINs searchable September 10, letters mailing September 15). Neither is a stop-ride, but wheel lock-up and a loose rear stabilizer are both handling problems — get the VIN checked before the next trail run.
The fourth Ford campaign, 26V-580, covers certain 2026 Bronco vehicles: a metal burr on the right-hand-side side curtain air bag's mounting bracket can tear the bag during deployment. The remedy increases the space between the bracket and the air bag; Ford is sending interim letters September 15 warning of the safety risk, with the remedy anticipated in October (Ford 26S64). Do not disable the air bag while you wait — the recall is the fix.
Toyota adds one. Under 26V-571, certain 2024 Tacoma Hybrid, 2025 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid, 2026 RAV4 Hybrid, 4Runner i-Force Max Hybrid and 4Runner vehicles carry a load carrying capacity modification label that may display inaccurate added-weight values, failing Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims." Dealers replace the label free (Toyota 26TA18, letters October 18). Until yours is corrected, don't trust that sticker's numbers — the service manual is your reference for what the truck can carry, and guessing a load figure off a label the government just flagged is how you overload an axle.
Away from recalls, there was plenty else. Dirt Wheels reports Wayne Matlock won the 2026 SCORE Baja 400 in a Polaris RZR Pro R Factory, collecting Polaris' $50,000 SCORE Challenge and leading an all-Polaris podium sweep. POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2026 F-150 vehicles. Incorrect rear axle tail bearings may have been installed, which can result in rear wheel lock-up or driveshaft separation.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the rear axle tail bearing, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 21, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S63. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning September 14, 2026.
