Stop-ride recall: RZR XP 1000 fuel line chafe, NHTSA 24V-153

This is a stop-ride notice, which makes it the most serious kind of recall the desk covers. NHTSA campaign 24V-153 applies to the Polaris RZR XP 1000 on the RZR-XP platform, model years 2019 through 2021. The defect as filed is a fuel line that may chafe against the frame. A fuel line that rubs through near a hot exhaust could be a fire risk, which is consistent with the stop-ride advisory to park it until it has been inspected.

The remedy listed with the campaign is straightforward. Dealers will inspect and reroute the fuel line at no charge. There is no parts-availability caveat in the filing we have, so an owner should be able to book the work as soon as a dealer has capacity. Ask the service desk to confirm they have the repair procedure on hand before you trailer the machine over.

Stop-ride means exactly what it says. Do not ride the machine, even a short distance around the property, until the inspection is done. If the machine has to move, push it or load it onto a trailer with the engine off. Fuel vapor and a chafed line do not care how short the trip is, and a fire on a trailer is only marginally better than a fire on the trail.

The first thing to do is confirm whether your specific machine is included. Recalls are issued by VIN range, not by model year alone, so a 2020 RZR XP 1000 is not automatically affected. Run the VIN through Polaris's own recall lookup, and cross-check it on the NHTSA recall page. If the two disagree, treat the machine as affected until a dealer says otherwise.

If your machine is in the campaign, contact a Polaris dealer and quote the campaign number, 24V-153. The dealer can see the open recall against the VIN and schedule the reroute. Recall work is free regardless of whether you bought the machine new, used or from a private seller, and regardless of whether it is still under warranty. A dealer cannot charge for the campaign repair itself.

While the machine is parked, this is a sensible time to do the other checks that a fuel-line recall hints at. Look over every fuel hose you can see for rub marks, especially where lines pass near the frame or the exhaust shield. Do not attempt to reroute the line yourself as a substitute for the recall. The dealer procedure is the documented fix, and a home reroute does not close the campaign against your VIN.

If you have already had a fuel line repaired at your own expense for this issue before the recall was published, keep the receipt. Manufacturers commonly reimburse prior repairs for a recalled condition, but the terms vary and you have to ask. Polaris customer service is the place to start, again quoting the campaign number.

The RZR-XP platform runs from 2014 to 2026, and this campaign touches only three of those years. Owners of other years are not covered by 24V-153, but a VIN check costs nothing and catches other open campaigns at the same time. Do it once a season as a habit, the same way you check the air filter, and the next stop-ride notice will not be a surprise.
